Our Galleries
Invitational Gallery:
In the main room downstairs we jury regional artists and art groups who submit applications. There is a qualified Standards Committee which helps choose from the many submissions we receive each year.
Hallway Galleries:
In both the upstairs and downstairs galleries we feature local art groups, educators, students, and occasionally a single artist. Each year in March there is a special exhibit of local students work as part of our participation in Youth Art Month. In April we feature Augusta County High School Seniors works.
Member’s Gallery:
In the front room downstairs we feature work from our many talented member/artists. Each month there is a theme and as long as works fit into it, they are free to exhibit. Some past themes have been: Portraits, Pastel and Pencil, View from a Window, Art from Recycled Objects, and Photography.
Hanging requirements:
All art must have screw eyes or d-rings on the back, as we hang with filament. A wire is not necessary. Sculpture must be free-standing.
As we like to keep visitors interested, we ask that you not exhibit any one piece of art more than once.
Member’s Gallery drop off dates and times:
Opening receptions are always the first Thursday of the month from 5:00-6:30pm.
Drop off times for member’s art are always Tuesday and Wednesday previous to the Opening Reception. Tuesday from 3:00-5:00 and Wednesday from 10:00am-noon.
Exhibits:

Invitational Gallery
The Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School Arts and Humanities Program began in the fall of 2002 to offer area students a creative environment to further their study in the visual arts or theatre arts and humanities. Students in the Visual Arts Department from Waynesboro, Staunton, and Augusta County spend each morning taking courses in art history and appreciation, humanities, and studio production, before returning to their home high schools for afternoon classes. One of the two studio courses is taught by local artists, giving the students the opportunity not only to learn about specific media and techniques, but also to gain insight into the life of a working artist. Students also have the added experiences of gallery visits, sketch trips, field trips, integrated arts activities with the Theatre Department, and preparing exhibitions of their work. Students apply to attend SVGS for their junior and senior years of high school and present a portfolio as the largest percentage of their application score. This show is designed to teach the students the process of preparing for an exhibition. The goal is to involve the students in the decision-making and preparation. The students will jury each other’s work to determine the pieces selected for the show. They will also help prepare their pieces for hanging, write their artist statements, compose and edit their headshots, help hang the show, and help create their labels. What you will see will be the result of their combined efforts, participating in an incredible learning opportunity, to display their work. Each student in the Visual Arts Department will be represented with at least one piece in the show. There will also be some collaborative pieces and class projects.
