Our Galleries

Invitational Gallery: In the main room downstairs we jury regional artists and art groups who submit applications. There is a qualified Standards Committee which helps choose from the many submissions we receive each year. Hallway Galleries: In both the upstairs and downstairs galleries we feature local art groups, educators, students, and occasionally a single artist. Each year in March there is a special exhibit of local students work as part of our participation in Youth Art Month. In April we feature Augusta County High School Seniors works.  Member’s Gallery: In the front room downstairs we feature work from our many talented member/artists. Each month there is a theme and as long as works fit into it, they are free to exhibit. Some past themes have been: Portraits, Pastel and Pencil, View from a Window, Art from Recycled Objects, and Photography.

Hanging requirements:
All art must have screw eyes or d-rings on the back, as we hang with filament. A wire is not necessary. Sculpture must be free-standing.
As we like to keep visitors interested, we ask that you not exhibit any one piece of art more than once.

Member’s Gallery drop off dates and times:
Opening receptions are always the first Thursday of the month from 5:00-6:30pm.
Drop off times for member’s art are always Tuesday and Wednesday previous to the Opening Reception. Tuesday from 3:00-5:00 and Wednesday from 10:00am-noon.

Exhibits:
In the Member’s Gallery each April:
Annual Sculpture contest: 2010 Birds

Benjamin L. Frey Collages

Benjamin uses a wide variety of traditional and contemporary techniques in creating his works. The resulting collages are a blend original and found imagery combined with pastels. graphite, paints, and glazes. In the beginning, the collages are a background of old book pages, etchings, sketches and tissue, which are then covered with acrylic paint and altered and distressed for interest. Each subsequent layer of papers, inks, wire and a myriad of other materials adds depth and mystery to the piece. Last of all Mr. Frey will paint and original landscape (often abstract) over the entire montage. His aim is to communicate a fresh and bold perspective on the responsibilities we have to contemplate and participate in the human condition. Benjamin has been making art for most of his life, and has been doing it professionally since 2003. After studying the styles of several generations of painters in his family, a mentor brought him to the medium of collage, which has opened many doors for him. Benjamin has a varied education: studying French at Centre De Losirs D'Enseignement du Francais and liberal arts at St. John's College in Annapolis, to a formal apprenticeship with Richard Minsky. All of these educational experiences have led him to win tons of awards, including 3 at the Virginia Fall Foliage Festival right here in Waynesboro. He has also taken honors at the Bethesda Row Art Show, Coconut Grove, Gasparilla Festival of the Arts in Tampa, and the Orlando Festival of the Masters.
