We’re back, and we are in the gorgeous new gallery at 416 W. Main Street! Applications are OPEN.
40UNDER40 is a juried exhibition featuring 40 works of art from Virginia artists age 40 and under. We are particularly looking for artists pushing boundaries in materials, processes, and subjects. All media welcome to apply.
This is consistently one of our most exciting and vibrant exhibits and we encourage you to apply! This is a springboard exhibit, designed specifically to give a regional boost to excellent emerging artists doing interesting and unexpected works.
$10 jury fee required to complete application.
Exhibit dates: January 4-February 22 2024
Opening reception January 11 (weather date 18)
Drop off: flexible hours Dec. 27-January 2
Pick up: Feb. 22 or 25
FAQ answers:
We have limited sound and film exhibition capabilities and we are unable to hang heavy pieces from the ceiling. Walls are drywall in this room, with some brick availablility. Returning artists are welcome to apply!
Cabell-Arehart Invitational Gallery Exhibits
The Cabell-Arehart Invitational Gallery is the main gallery space at 126 S. Wayne Avenue. We host 9 exhibits per year in this space, including juried solo and group exihibitions. Annual exhibits include the Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School Peer Juried Exhibit, 40UNDER40, the Annual Anniversary Member’s Exhibit, and the Winter Contemporary Exhibit featuring a guest curator.
Virginia Ross Invitational Gallery
The Virginia Ross Invitational Gallery is the main gallery in the newly renovated 416 W. Main Street location. This large gallery has an industrial feel with exposed brick, wood floors, exposed ducts and utilities, and a black metal ceiling. This gallery features 137 running feet of wall space and is open for solo and group exhibitions and is wonderful for installation work.
TO APPLY FOR AN EXHIBIT:
Applications to exhibit in the Invitational Galleries are reviewed each August for the following year. Artists are asked to submit a package including: 10 hi-resolution images, a show proposal, and artist statement, and a resume to be considered. Applications may be found HERE.

As an SVAC member, you are encouraged to take advantage of some of our outside exhibit opportunities.
